Filler-itis (To the Tune of Schoolhouse Rock’s “Interjections!”)

 

When Katie had her interview – um, like, so

A straight-A student, honors too-oo

The boss asked her questions,

With all good intentions

But Katie filled her answers with imperfections

 

Totally!  Like, ya know!

Well, I mean…

Literally! I’m great and stuff, so, like, hire me!

 

Filleritis (um!) shows incompetence (I mean) or insecurity, (Like)

It generally fills a pause in a sentence with an unnecessary word

or with a phrase when the awkward pause is long

 

Ummmmm

 

Mr. Bezos wanted business success – um, like, so

But new sales reps needed training yet-et

He made his observation

They lacked articulation

And demanded a tech-driven consultation

 

Well! We need elocution

Right!, I’ll look into a solution

Literally! There is an app for that!
